It’s funny how people will tell you things to appease you, just to shut you up, just to stop making them feel guilty. But what they’re really telling you is that there is no fucking way they will ever try to do anything for you. It’s not a lack of willpower or time but a lack of selflessness and respect for you. They can’t be bothered with your menial requests because they’re too consumed with themselves. Don’t confuse redirection and selfishness, it’s the same thing. It’s not that they don’t have time for you, it’s that they can’t stop thinking about themselves and how to avoid you and your requests. The sad thing is that it’s too easy to keep feeling like things are better than they appear.
